 Post subject: fish tank help

ok i have a 29 gallon tank with a menpachi and a small palani
and i'm gettting 55 gallon tank soon so how would i transfer
the fish? jus dump it in the new tank once set?

Don't do that. Are you going to transfer the filters? did you get bigger filters for the new tank. More information on your setups would help but you want to cycle the new tank before you put the fish in.

yeah, as tomgra mentioned dont just dump um in. Typically the tank needs a break-in period to let the healthy bacteria (the kind that balance the nitrogen) grow... you can purchase something called stress-zyme or equivelent at an aquarium shop to speed up the break-in process. I hope the larger tank has larger pumps and filters as well. For new tanks I usually first put in a super hardy and cheap fish to break it in (mamo or something) before moving in the more expensive fish. I think menpachis and palanis are relatively hardy so they should be able to handle w/o this step though. I would float them in a bag in the 55 gal tank with the water from the 29 gal and every 10 minutes or so mix in some water from the 55 gal tank. I would say 30 minutes or 3 mixes is enough. This is to get them acclimated to the new tanks salininty, since its likely not to be the same as what they were used to. Good luck!
